Why
does my therapist tell me NOT to consume any
alcohol & drugs at least 24 hours before
a massage therapy session?
EXCEPTION
TO THE RULE: Doctor prescribed medications (however,
you should consult with your doctor before receiving
massage therapy).
As
explained in the Water link,
your muscles are a 'store house' for chemicals,
toxins, vitamins, etc.
If
you take drugs or alcohol before a massage,
you run the risk of serious damage to your body.
Since these chemicals are stored in your muscles,
they will be released back into your bloodstream
in concentrated form, during a deep tissue massage.
In
most cases this will cause the client to become
extremely ill; and in some very rare cases (normally
with illegal drugs), can cause death! This would
be the equivalent of an overdose.
If
you drink alcohol, it is best to NOT to consume
within 24 hours of the massage.
If
you take any drugs (prescription or otherwise)
you should consult you doctor before receiving
massage therapy.
